AC7049 – 40 CREDIT MODULE Module assessment breakdown 20 credits – Timed Invigilated Assessment (TIA) 20 credits – 3,000 word critical appraisal assignment Session design – presentation helps to inform choice of assignment topic, targeted reading/practice MCQ helps inform exam revision MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES 1. You will critically discuss the manifestations of pathology and analyse the consequence upon health status. 2. You will apply a critical understanding of normal and altered physiology and relevant pharmacology and pharmacological interventions. 3. You will demonstrate a critical awareness of the mechanism and action of common drugs used within the students’ specific area of clinical practice. This will include drug indications, contraindications, and routes of safe administration. 4. You will evaluate quantitative research relating to altered physiology 5. You will critically reflect on your learning and its application to your advanced clinical practice. TIA – MLO 1, 3, 4 and 5 (50% weighting) Critical appraisal – MLO 1, 2, 4 and 5 (50% weighting) BREAKDOWN OF SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS Timed Invigilated Assessment (TIA) on life science and pharmacology that will comprise Short Answer Questions (SAQ) and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). This addresses MLO 1, 3, 4 and 5 with 50% weighting of final grade Exam date: Tuesday 30/04/2019 at 10am (room to be announced via Blackboard) Digital submission of a 3000 word critical appraisal of literature based on a relevant organ dysfunction and evidence based pharmacological intervention of your choosing. This addrsses MLO 1, 2, 4 and 5, with 50% weighting of final grade Submission date: Sunday 23/06/2019 TIMED INVIGILATED ASSESSMENT (TIA) 2 hour duration Multiple choice question (MCQ) and short answer question (SAQ) based No additional materials Related to local population health needs Targeted reading/practice exam questions useful for revision purposes 3,000 WORD CRITICAL APPRAISAL 3,000 word critical appraisal (+/- 10%) Level 7 Front sheet including: Name, student number, date of submission, word count and marker Guidance available on Blackboard ‘assessment’ tab There will also be a Panopto recording of this session content Please see ‘Assessment guidance’ proforma on Blackboard POTENTIAL TOPICS – IDEAS GENERATION Can be acute or chronic Primary Hypertension Coronary heart disease Diabetes Mellitus (type 1 or 2) Stroke (transient ischaemic attack) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (advised to be specific within umbrella term) Liver Cirrhosis Endometriosis CRITICAL APPRAISAL MARKING CRITERIA Introduction – 20% (approx. 600 words) Introduce a pathological manifestation of your choice and the consequence to patient health, including an interpretation of normal physiology. Critical analysis – 35% (approx. 1050 words) Provide a critical analysis of available literature relating to your chosen altered physiology Critical understanding of pharmacological interventions – 35% (approx. 1050 words) Apply critical understanding of pharmacology and relevant pharmacological interventions to your chosen altered physiological state. Critical reflection – 10% (approx. 300 words) Critically reflect upon your learning and application .
